It's so f*cking obvious it's untrue. Play your best players in their best positions = well balanced team = best possible outcome. That means SG in CM. Anything else is just bollocks or emans we don't have decent enough rightmidfield or winger.

the only time I would tolerate himn there is if we're playing a top, top European side and we need Masher and Xabi in CM as extra insurance.

The best TEAM doesn't necesarily have the players playing in their best position. You need to embrace pragmatism!!!!!!!

I think Rafas mentality is the right players for each different games, that why he chops and changes so much
When you feel like you're done, you are not alone........

Of course it does. The best team has the best BALANCE. That means the best players in their best position to get the best out of them. If you're having to play your best player out of position because he's filling in and BETTER than the alternative is there, then what you have as an alternative isn't good enough then the team will suffer.

It's about being the best and not settling for second best in some areas.

Replace team with squad and you'll see that more flexibility is required.

Nope - I'll never accept that. The best TEAM is what's required. You play your best team all the time, and replace when necessary. That's where the SQUAD comes in in my book. Anything else breeds inconsistency, and lack of undertsanding in key areas and no fluency. It's no co-incidence that we havenm't put a serious title challenge in with the lack of quality in key areas and all the chopping and changing in the same said areas.

We'll have to agree to disagree then, I think Rafa's approach is more pragmatic than yours. I think he aims for the fittest team which is good enough to beat the oppostion! This may or may not include Stevie G in the middle / on the right.

I think the world is more shades of gray than the black and white world you seem to imply.

I agree that the best team might not ALWAYS be required to win certain games, but I do think the chopping and changing to "just do enough" doesn't help and leads to a lack of fluency when it's most required. Especially in key areas such as wide midfield and up front. Strange how we can keep a stable back 4 or 5 but not further up the pitch which is how games are won.

I think Rafa's point is that the squad needs to learn to adjust to this!

If it takes 3 years to adjust then maybe it doesn't work????!!! Same as GH pretending that Igor was a Centre Half! Just how much evidence is required?
